Prework

  Sketch of the Arch of Constantine, Rome

Architecture is an art where people gather and communicate with the building. Though dedicated to Constantine, many of the ornaments incorporated sculpture panels from the time of other emperors. The delicacy of arch's line, frame and composition stresses the overwhelming power of that architecture, furthermore, mimics the human body in action, which bridges the distance between people and the architecture itself.

Chapel of the Holy Shroud, Turin

The chapel of the holy shroud was built between 1668 and 1694 by Guarino Guarini in Turin, in order to hold the shroud which is believed to be the burial shroud of Jesus. It features an impressive self-supporting dome with interlocking marble blocking in a complex feat of engineering, satisfying the need of aesthetics, the stability of the structure and the sublime statue of this chapel. The chapel was almost entirely damaged by a big fire in 1997, and it was reopened last year after 21 years' repairing. Over 4000 pieces of architectural elements were repaired or even replaced during this reconstruction.

Coogee Beach, Sydney

This picture was taken in Coogee in my first week of uni. I'm impressed by the sunshine and the beautiful sea view of Sydney. The rough beach and water makes a strong contrast with the clean and silent sky.
